Problems Running Boot Camp Assistant

I began by opening up Boot Camp Assistant to start the a new Windows XP installation.

The Boot Camp Assistant seemed to be running fine…

But then it stopped and I got an error window inside Boot Camp Assistant:

There are two things that come to mind:

  1. I have had an issue with Boot Camp before, where my disk was so defragmented that it could not find a big enough “chunk” of space to create the partition.  I solved this the last time by buying iDefrag and defragging my drive with a boot disk created with iDefrag.
  2. Perhaps I could listen to the error and repair this disk.  This involves finding my Apple Leopard install DVD, booting from DVD, and running a “Repair” on my Macintosh volume.

Using iDefrag

My first try was to use iDefrag.  I started it and ran a “Quick (on-line)”, which doesn’t require a boot disk, and the Mac can still be running. (I didn’t have a blank DVD at the time)
